Climb has been used in naturopathy for centuries. The burdock root is particularly valuable. Currently, burdock can be found almost all over the world, including Poland. While a popular salad ingredient among residents of Asia, it is considered a common weed in Poland. Despite this lack, it is still popular as an ingredient, mainly in cosmetics. but it is worth knowing that it is not only suitable for scalp or acne skin care. It belongs to the daisy family, and species of burdock are used extensively—smaller and larger because they exhibit the most beneficial health effects.

nutritional value the burdock

Raw burdock root in 100 grams contains about 72 kcal, the vast majority of which, because almost 18 grams are carbohydrates. Protein is 1.5 grams, while fats have the lowest proportion here at 0.15 grams each. It also contains fiber in an amount not exceeding 3.5 grams.

Its main advantage is the high content of antioxidants that prevent the negative effects of free oxygen radicals. Burdock root contains plant-based phytosterols, which are especially important for people struggling with high levels of LDL cholesterol in their blood. In addition, it contains many essential oils, organic acids and mineral salts; such as phosphorus and sulphur, but also vitamins A and C. Burdock is also rich in resin and protein compounds. One of the key ingredients is inulin, a polysaccharide used to help treat insulin resistance and diabetes.

The use of burdock

The use of this plant for medicinal purposes is mainly based on the use of its root. This can be done in a number of ways. The most popular type is a decoction of boiled burdock roots for drinking, or burdock leaves soaked in oil, primarily applied topically to the skin. In addition, we can also find burdock root extracts, various oils, juices, syrups and even creams.

Purifying and regenerating properties

Thanks to the content of substances such as inulin or polyenes, it can help with skin diseases such as acne or seborrhea. The healing, antibiotic effect of burdock also helps with dry skin, ulcers, impetigo and is helpful in the treatment of psoriasis and eczema. It also strengthens the hair bulbs, it additionally thickens and increases the thickness of the hair. It will also prevent excessive hair loss attributed , so it is often an ingredient in restorative shampoos or conditioners.

Also, it cleanses the entire body of toxins and increases the rate of excretion of metabolic products. It has a positive effect on the functioning of the liver, kidneys and cardiovascular system. It removes toxins from them and increases their efficiency. The substances contained in the burdock root have antibiotic, i.e. antibacterial and antifungal properties. Decoctions and extracts of burdock are great as a natural immunity booster. They can also prevent bacterial infections of the mouth and gums. Interestingly, it also has a soothing effect on bite marks. A crushed burdock leaf applied to a sore spot greatly reduces burning and possible erythema.

antidiabetic effect

Burdock infusions are especially valuable for diabetics or people trying to lower their blood sugar levels. This plant is perfect for this thanks to the content of inulin. It is a complex sugar that can be absorbed by diabetics because it is broken down in the body into fructose rather than glucose. In addition, it lowers blood sugar levels and guarantees the restoration of a normal bacterial flora in the intestine.

Another use of burdock

Burdock may be helpful in treating rheumatism and gout due to its cleansing and anti-inflammatory properties. It prevents excessive accumulation of urea in the joints and relieves rheumatic pains.

It aids in digestion by increasing the secretion of bile and mucus in the stomach, in addition to reducing excessive secretion of gastric juice, which improves digestion. This property is also important in case of inflammation of the digestive system, liver disease or digestive problems.

An interesting fact may be the fact that some time ago Climb and products with their involvement were popular as skin lightening agents in France. The mixture was made from burdock and other active ingredients, but is no longer used today.

contraindications

Burdock is a very safe plant. There were no cases when its use led to serious complications. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women because in high doses it can help increase uterine function. Pregnant women should always be careful with herbal supplements and discuss this decision with a doctor beforehand.

In addition, it is becoming more and more popular, for this reason we can find many products on the market that suit our needs.
