Grapefruit belongs to the rue family and is most likely a cross between the Chinese orange and the giant orange. It originates from the Malay Archipelago. In the 17th century, it was brought to the island of Barbados, where it became established. Today, it is cultivated around the Caribbean Sea and in many subtropical regions of the world.
