The banana is an exotic fruit (botanically a berry) grown primarily in the tropics of Africa, America, Asia and the Pacific. The word banana comes from Arabic for finger banana or from the African Wolof language, where these plants are referred to as banaana .
Banana is a very healthy fruit most of the important vitamins for our health - A, B, C, E and K - and a wealth of valuable minerals - calcium, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. The antioxidant content, which helps the body fight the aging process, and pectin, which lowers bad cholesterol levels, mean that a banana should be a part of almost everyone's daily diet.
Banana is a delicious snack and a great addition to cakes and desserts. In some cases, dried bananas can be used as a sugar substitute.
