For children, birth is an extraordinary experience, a very important celebration. Children invite their friends and grandparents with considerable expectations. It has to be beautiful, colorful, perhaps with a central theme, such as a fairy tale. Parents who want to make their child happy often opt for plastic straws, which make organizing a little easier, disposable plates, cups, and cutlery, a sea of ​​balloons, streamers, confetti, and finally a piñata. Add to that colorful candies, each wrapped in its own plastic wrapper, lollipops, and, of course, presents. All of this means that after a one- or two-hour toddler party, we have several bags of trash. Can this be avoided, and will a zero-waste birthday party satisfy the birthday child?

Ecological decorations

Instead of rubber balloons, you can also use pompoms made from tissue paper and fabric, or hand-made paper garlands. You can also beautifully decorate the table and the entire room with fresh flowers – this always creates a unique and festive effect.

Table preparation

Instead of buying plastic plates, cups, and forks, we can offer children snacks on regular, traditional plates. However, if the children are still preschool age and we're concerned about their safety or don't want to risk losing a plate from the service, we can use eco-friendly paper and biodegradable tableware. These are not only environmentally friendly but also more attractive and effective than plastic ones. For example:

Simple, colorful snacks are best for children. Meals don't have to be elaborate and time-consuming. If we want them to be zero-waste, we should avoid plastic-wrapped chips, candies, gummy bears, and carbonated drinks. What should we make instead to make it healthy, delicious, and eco-friendly? Instead of colorful drinks in plastic bottles, homemade lemonade is better—delicious, healthy, refreshing, and plastic-free. Add homemade ice cream and sorbets—kids love them and often prefer them to cake—to make a box of ice cream, simply slice and freeze at least three bananas with a handful of strawberries or other favorite fruits. Once they're thoroughly frozen, pour a glass of milk (or vegetable milk) over them and blend until you get the consistency of ice cream, and it's ready.

Instead of store-bought cookies, we can serve beautiful muffins baked in silicone molds, colorful jellies with whipped cream instead of gummy bears, and homemade popcorn instead of chips.

For a savory snack, colorfully decorated sandwiches with eyes, faces, ears, and mustaches made from cucumbers, radishes, or bell peppers are perfect. You can also bake homemade pizza or small pizzerias with your children—this way, the kids not only eat, but also have a lot of fun.

Zero-waste games and animations

Of course, a children's birthday party shouldn't be without some fun. Here are some suggestions:
