The common fig, also known as the Carian fig, fig tree, or fruit fig tree, is a species of tree or shrub belonging to the mulberry family. Its fruits are small, pear-shaped figs. Currently, the fig tree does not occur in the wild, but is widely cultivated in Croatia, Turkey, and Greece, among other places.
Figs are extremely healthy fruits. Rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, and minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, manganese, calcium, and iron, they are a true nutritional bomb and should be included in the diet of almost everyone. Figs also contain plenty of fiber, which supports the digestive system.
Ripe figs are a delicious snack. They also make a great addition to cakes, tarts, desserts, salads, meat dishes, and pancakes.
