DESCRIPTION

Potassium permanganate 1kg BIOMUS

A chemical reagent for laboratory, analytical, and teaching purposes. It is used as an oxidizing agent in many chemical reactions, particularly in organic chemistry. It is a strong oxidizing agent, meaning it instantly oxidizes primary alcohols to carboxylic acid salts, while KMnO4 oxidizes secondary alcohols to ketones. Afterward, the reaction usually continues, breaking the C–C bond. Potassium permanganate solution is used in chemical analysis to detect reducing ions such as thiocyanates, bromides, and nitrites. This solution is also used in quantitative analysis for titration—that is, manganese titration. Potassium permanganate has strong bactericidal and fungicidal properties. The 0.05% solution is used for washing skin, wounds, and ulcers, and the 0.025% solution is used for rinsing the mouth. It is used as an oxygen-generating agent by reaction with hydrogen peroxide or by strong heating. It can also be used to produce chlorine by reaction with hydrochloric acid.
